It could have been any number of factors. The heat, the move, the strangers, the accent, the lifestyle. One of the numerous reasons to make me uncomfortable was doing just that. I was stressed out more at this point in my life than any other time. High School wasn’t this bad. Middle School, elementary school, kindergarten, daycare. None of this was stressful. How could I be here now? What had our educational systems prepared me for? Definitely not this. It definitely didn’t prepare me for 13 weeks in the scorching heat of Fort Knox, Kentucky.

“Get in line maggot!” The drill Sergeant’s eyes bulged and spit flecked my face as he barked the orders.
